It has been 36 years since Kerala VHS
was founded. During these years the organization met lot of
opportunities and challenges, which provides strength and
make Kerala VHS as one of the people centered development
organization in the state. The ripples begun by the founders
36years ago in the pool of Kerala's development have continued
and strengthen to generate ever widening networks and spheres
of influence in governments health and development policies.
Now we are the official consultants of all major government's
development interventions in Kerala. Many of our achievements
were duly recognized by international agencies and motivated
others to replicate it in other parts of the nation. We always
proud about our well dedicated governing board and committed
staff those who have been the brain, blood and spirit of this
achievement. We appreciate the concern, involvement and motivation
of our member organizations which helps Kerala VHS to deliver
effective services to grass root level.
During the completed year Kerala VHS
widened its activities and involvement to more challenging
areas. We brought public - private partnership in health delivery
system first time in the state through National Rural Health
Mission. Our reproductive Child Health (RCH) project have
been providing better health care services to un served and
under served areas of Idukki and Kottayam.
The newly started School Centered Health Promotion project
already initiated several development models and best practices.
The supplementary curriculum on healthy diet and play way
model awareness tools got appreciation from national and international
level.
Another successful task we carried out this year was the Anti-tobacco
awareness. The American Cancer Society reputed our intervention
in the area of tobacco control by promoting our senior programme
officer as alumni of their university.
This year Kerala VHS completed yet another phase of the project
promotion of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy ( ISM
& H) with the support of Ayush Department Government of
India with innovative activities. The project partnership
in sexual health enters in to new phase with more target interventions.
Our consultancy services in Government's infrastructure development
programmes i.e. Rural Water Supply and Sanitation project
( Jalanidhi) and Kerala State Transport Project ( KSTP) are
almost completed its tasks and now working on withdrawal strategies.
Kerala VHS' rehabilitation programme in the Tsunami affected
costal area has successfully completed its second phase and
entered in to third phase with a task of sustaining the achievements.
Our measurers in disaster preparedness through school curriculum
got international and national recognition and appreciation.
In response to the recent out break of epidemic fever in Kerala
, Kerala VHS conducted several preventive and controlling
measurers. Our recent involvement with National Homeopathic
Research Centre, Kurichy regarding the macro immunization
programme against epidemic fever might be a adaptable model
in coming years.
These entire complex tasks would not have been possible with
out the contributions of our colleagues in the governing board
member organizations and the hard work of our staff. We thank
each and every one of them. Our partnership with VHAI is vital
and it has strengthened us to address the issues in development
more effectively and efficiently. At this juncture we are
extremely grateful to the Executive Board of VHAI, Sri.Alok
Mukhopadhyay, Chief Executive and his colleagues at VHAI.
While stepping in to the next year we, the members of Kerala
VHS family specially remember the co-operation guidance, concern
and generosity of all our partners, particularly VHAI, ICCO,
Netherlands, officials of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Govt. of India, State Department of H & FW, WHO, UNFPA,
